This has been a year of blessing and challenge for me and for my
patient honorees, Kaye, Mike, and J.D. Thanks to
you, I raised $12,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in
2008 and participated in a half marathon, a century ride, and a
triathlon. My commitment to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
remains as strong as ever: its mission is to find cures and
treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins Disease, and myeloma.
Your support is making a difference: research is yielding amazing
results in new protocols and treatments for blood cancers, giving
hope and quality of life to thousands of patients.
In 2009 I plan to train for Americas Most Beautiful Bike Ride a
return to Lake Tahoe to ride 100 miles in honor of all who struggle
with blood cancer, and in memory of Mike Houston. Read on, and
youll understand why I ask for your prayers and support for the
2009 season to reach my goal of $20,000. Please consider a generous
contribution as a gesture of Thanksgiving for the gift of life.
Kaye Kriz’s myeloma is persistent and the graft/host balance
keeps going down unwanted rabbit trails. She has been in and our of
the hospital to tweak treatment…it’s like herding cats to make
the bad cells behave.
Now, my own brother, Bruce Miller, has a diagnosis of multiple
myeloma – the same disease our father had at about the same age.
What gives?
Last year we lost Mike Houston to leukemia after a great
training season and an event that included his daughter Beth, who
came from Vancouver to ride with us.
This summer, J.D. Stahl successfully completed a course of chemo
to address new cancer activity related to his lymphoma. So far, so
good but it is always lurking.
Please join me in the quest for research, education, and
family services with your tax-deductible contribution.
Just click on the “Donate Now” button or checks may be made to The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and sent to me at 305 Country Club
Dr., SE, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
Blessings and thanks to each of you! Jan
